There were many things I enjoyed about doing these blogs but also many things I did not like. What I did enjoy was being able to express what I thought about a certain topic. It also made me think more in-depth than I usually do. I had to think more about what I was going to write because it wasn’t a project that you could just make up really. What I did not like was that I never really knew what to write about. It was hard for me to pick a topic, and when I did pick a topic I didn’t really know what to write about it. I also did not like that it really did not make a difference if I did these blogs or not, because I do not know what I benefited from them, or what the point of the project was. Overall, I thought it was a good way to express our feelings about something, but I would have liked it better if we were given a topic, and then we had to write about the same topic as everyone else every week. I think that would have made it a lot easier to decipher and would have had more interesting posts on interesting topics.

Noah Biorkman

I heard about this story, and it honestly broke my heart. Five year old Noah Biorkman was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a type of cancer, when he was 3 years old and the family just found out he will not make it to Christmas this year. The family wants him to make the most of his last few months, so they are asking people to send Christmas cards to their house. They are going to be celebrating Christmas this weekend, just so they know that they have one last Christmas with him and they want to make it memorable. I have already sent a Christmas card to Noah, just to help out his family. I think what they are asking of everyone is not very much, seeing as you basically are paying two or three dollars to make a precious little boy happy. The family was only asking of cards, and people started sending gifts and money to the family’s house. They have gotten cards from all over the world, and are hoping to get a few more before Noah passes away. They have a Facebook page where you can send him messages and send the family prayers. You can read a short paragraph about Noah, and it also has his address available so if you want to make a change in this child’s life, it would be greatly appreciated. Facebook and Myspace

I, just like the other billion people, am basically addicted to Facebook and MySpace. While there are many good reasons for websites like these, such as to stay on contact with friends, or to get back in contact with people you have not heard from in years, there are many bad things to come with it. A lot of people do not realize that when you put in information, such as your first and last name, along with what school you go to, you can easily get a stalker. When MySpace first started getting more popular, a lot of young women were getting stalked and even kidnapped by someone who they had met on MySpace. Facebook is basically the same thing. A lot of people put information down such as what city they live in and what state, and that makes them an easy target. Facebook does have good security though, so not everyone can look at your information, while MySpace there are ways to get around the security block that is put up. I believe if you are going to use one of these websites to get back in contact with friends, you should be very careful about what types of information you’re putting on there for the public to see. You never know who may find you attractive, or see you as an easy target, and you may be in serious danger. I think the website operators should put a better block on your information, because little bits of information could make it very easy for you to be one of the people getting stalked or worse, kidnapped.

Google VS Yahoo

How many people go to Yahoo to get information rather than Google? I honestly do not know anyone that goes to Yahoo for directions, or for information on certain things. What is the difference between the two? Why does Google have so much more information that Yahoo does? I know that even if Google does not have what I am looking for, I never go to Yahoo. It seems that they are both the same search engines, but the more people use Google, the more information other people will get. I think that Yahoo is going to start having only a few people using it, and after a while what will happen? Will Yahoo not exist? To me, basically it doesn’t exist. I think if Google does not have what I need, Yahoo won’t either. I know a few years ago everyone used Yahoo rather than Google. What made the sudden change in minds? There really is not difference in the search engines, just Google is more known to have every thing that you search for, such as directions, addresses, cooking recipes, everything. Also, the same as Ask.com. That website does have more information on certain questions than Google, but hardly no one uses Ask unless you are running out of options. If someone ever wanted to start up a new search engine, I think it would be a waste of time. I do not believe that Google will ever start running down, or people will ever stop using. Unless, someone does come up with a better idea and more information, but that would be nearly impossible.

Cellphone Internet

This week I decided to do my blog on using your cell-phone for the Internet. I wanted to write about this because I now know that some colleges are giving student iPhones for homework assignments and to stay on top of everything. I know that I use the Internet on my phone CONSTANTLY, and that is almost an understatement. If I did not have the Internet on my phone, I would not be doing a lot of the assignments that I do. I do not own a computer at my house anymore, so I go to my grandma’s house to use hers. The only time I go to her house though, is if I check my Webmail account on my phone, and see that I have new e-mails and new homework assignments. Also, I use my phone for the news, the weather, and of course Facebook and Myspace. Now that I think about it, I have no idea what I used to do with my time. I am surfing the web every free minute that I get, I don’t know how I used to find out the news and weather. I believe if Delta or Saginaw Valley were to give the incoming freshman iPhones a lot more students would be willing to apply, and possibly willing to pay a little bit more. I know I would not disagree with the fact that I am paying more to have an iPhone to help me with my homework. It would also be good because I could use a phone like that to e-mail my professors, and get a response quicker than I usually do.

News Information

Seeing as we are all doing news media assignments right now, I figured I would do a post about finding news online. As you can see, everyone has to find a news story to post for an assignment in this class, and no one is having a problem finding different news sources. This goes to show that you can find out probably more information online going to a few different websites, than you can actually watching the news. Me, personally, would rather go online and look up the weather, or look up an interesting story than watch the news. It is almost impossible to not find a news article online if it was shown on television or in a magazine at some point, and it’s very simple to find news articles. Of course, like every other topic on the Internet, you may come across a faulty article, one that has many wrong statements and isn’t 100% true, but if you go through enough websites, you will find a lot of information on a certain news article. I think this is very helpful because some people can not watch the news every day because maybe they are too busy, they can then go online and look at the weather, or check to see any important stories that were on the news that day. If it weren’t for being able to look for news online, I would be lost in the world. I have watched the news maybe twice in my life, but I do look online at the important news.

Good versus Bad

For most reasons, I believe the Internet is put to good use, in terms of how I myself, use the Internet. I use the Internet for many things, and I am probably on the computer about three or four hours every day. If I did not have the Internet I know I would be completely lost, and I would not be able to use a computer as well as I do. There are some bad uses for the Internet, such as pornography websites. I believe all of the pornography sites should be deleted, or should put a virus on your computer that is not fixable. It is unbelievable how many people use those sites, and it is more unbelievable if you realize how many pornography sites there are. I do not understand why anyone would start a website like that, or what made them decide to make such a website. If you are going to take the time to make a website, do not make a pornography site. Make a website that EVERYONE could benefit from, not just the people who enjoy that type of thing. Also, the websites that people use for a form of prostitution. If you want to be a prostitute, stand on the corner. Don’t post pictures on the Internet that everyone can see, and that pops up on our screens when we are not interested. There are many bad uses for the internet, but I believe most people use it to benefit themselves rather than use it for a reason such as the one’s posted above.

I came across this website a few months ago. I was very depressed and needed some reassurance and a little bit of kindness to make me feel better. That’s when I found the website called operation beautiful. This website was started by a woman who knows what it is like to be depressed, and how good it feels to hear something good about yourself. She started getting people to agree with her, and what you do is get a sticky note and a marker, you write an inspiring message on it, such as “you are beautiful”, or “you are amazing” and you post it in a bathroom stall, or on a mirror in a public place. When women would look in a mirror, thinking they do not look good enough, or they do not feel like they look good, they see an inspiring message, and it does brighten someones day. I started doing this at Delta myself, just because I know if I found one of these notes, it sure would make me smile. I believe the woman who made the site is very helpful to a lot of people. I even heard that getting one of these notes saved a few girls’ lives. That is outstanding. On the website she posts “The point is that WE ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL. You are enough… just the way you are!” That is the most true statement I have heart in a while. This website has helped many girls, and I hope it will continue to do that for some time.
